"Well, anyway it wasn't my fault. Just an accident!"
Anthony James Marston was one of ten guests invited to Soldier Island. He was the first to die, in the manner laid out in the poem.
Marston is described as an amoral and irresponsible young man, who killed two young children (John and Lucy Combes) while driving recklessly. He felt no real remorse and accepted no personal responsibility, complaining only that his driving licence had been suspended as a result.
"Anthony James Marston, that upon the 14th day of November last, you were guilty of the murder of John and Lucy Combes."
While driving recklessly, Marston ran over and killed two children in the road, John and Lucy Combes. A few wealthy friends prevented him from losing his driver's license, and instead he was only banned from driving for a year. He feels no remorse for the incident as he lacks any kind of moral responsibility.
"One choked his little self and then there were Nine."
Anthony Marston was the first guest to die, having ingested cyanide which was slipped in his drink.
